An electrifying success.

2021 World Car of the Year: Volkswagen ID.4

We can’t hold it any longer — the Volkswagen ID.4, the first all-electric SUV by Volkswagen, was named the 2021 World Car of the Year . The team at Steve White Volkswagen watched as 93 international jurors scrutinized several rivals in an intense global competition. After the vote was decided, not only did the Volkswagen ID.4 win the title, but the all-electric SUV was praised for its environmental impact, zero direct emissions and affordability. We offer our sincere congratulations to Volkswagen!

We can’t say that we’re surprised by the Volkswagen brand’s success, no matter how thrilled we are that another award has been added to the 2021 year. The sheer wealth of features that the Volkswagen ID.4 provides makes this SUV a winner for not only us, but for you, too. Its 82 kWh electric battery, driver assistance technology, over-the-air software updates and the ID.Light assistant are all eye-catching features that have made our customers from Asheville, Columbia, Spartanburg, Anderson and the Upstate eager to learn what else the Volkswagen ID.4 has hiding inside.

Volkswagen Responds in Gratitude

“We are particularly pleased about our ID.4 being named World Car of the Year,” says Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of Volkswagen passenger cars. “Not only because it is one of the most important car awards in the world, but also because the jury honored a great idea and a great team. The first ID. model for the key markets of Europe, China and the U.S. carries our electric offensive around the world.”

“The World Car of the Year award marks a great success for our entire ID. team,” says Thomas Ulbrich, Board Member for Development at the Volkswagen brand. “We have succeeded in developing a car that starts the system change to e-mobility in the world's most important segment — compact SUVs — and offers excellent everyday usability. We are making innovative electric mobility in the volume market something that can be experienced by everyone.”

Intending to release at least one new all-electric model to the market globally every year, Volkswagen is determined to stay at the forefront of the electric vehicle race.
